Cozumel is one of the best-positioned destinations in the Mexican Caribbean and in the world, being a great attraction for the cruise industry, which attracted 7.1 million cruise passengers in 2024 alone, breaking a new record.
According to the latest information published by the Ministry of Tourism of Quintana Roo (Sedetur), apart from the 7.1 million cruise passengers, the destination managed to attract 1.1 million tourists, including those who arrived by air, the work that will be carried out in the next meetings will be to increase the number of air operations.
“In this market in Cozumel we have to work hard, we have meetings with the different airlines, we have meetings scheduled with Aeromexico, Viva Aerobus, Volaris where we are going to achieve more frequencies from the destinations with which we are connected,” said the municipal president.
It should be remembered that at the close of the first month of the year, the Cozumel International Airport managed to carry 66,618 passengers, a lower number than that achieved during the same period of the previous year when it managed to attract 77,678 people, so now it will be sought to increase the number of visitors arriving to the island by air.
In addition, campaigns will be implemented to promote the history and culture of a place with a history of tourist activities dating back more than 500 years, as it was a ceremonial center for the Mayans.
“We are very happy to be at the first market in Rosarito and in Tijuana, Baja California and we are very happy because Cozumel has a lot to talk about; history, culture, tradition, natural beauty, in short,” the president shared.
He pointed out that there are several deep-rooted festivities on the island that return to high-level tourist experiences.
“Let's remember that next May 3rd is our traditional Cedral Fair, with which we will celebrate 177 years of history, remember, we are one of the oldest municipalities in all of Quintana Roo,” explained José Luis Chacón.
Cozumel Island also has the 151-year-old Carnival celebration in this peculiar city in Mexico, which is also a Magical Town.
“We have to talk about the Magic Town, our natural beauty and the fact that we have many of the most beautiful beaches in the world, Passion Island, El Cielito, among others.
